Our Story + Values

EX2 Adventures is a family-run small business based in Fairfax County, VA. EX2 was founded in 2000 by Jim and Kimberly Harman with a vision to create excellent experiences, enrich lives, and become the model adventure sports event production company to which all others are compared. EXcellent EXperiences is where the name EX2 originates. Jim led EX2 and served as race director for 17 years.

In late 2016, in advance of moving out of the area, Jim asked long-time EX2 racer and friend Andy Bacon to take over the reins of EX2. Andy worked on the EX2 staff during the 2017 season learning the ropes, and officially became owner and race director at the end of the 2017 season. Andy lives in Vienna, VA with his wife, Kelly, and two daughters, Emily and Zoe.

EX2 has produced over 400 events around Northern Virginia and Maryland and is one of the oldest adventure sports companies in the country.  We produce 18-20 events a year, including trail running, mountain bike, off-road triathlon and duathlon, and several adventure races.

At all of our events you will experience fun and challenging course design, limited race entry, professional race operations, and a wonderful sense of community. Fantastic post-race food, colorful t-shirts, and great music are staples at all EX2 events.
