Schaeffer Course Descriptions
Schaeffer Farms has some of the best singletrack around and we stage the race at the beautiful private Button Farm. You are going to LOVE this race venue and course!!
This course is known for it’s twisty singletrack and wide-open farm field running. Schaeffer is located in Germantown, MD and is an easy drive from anywhere around the DMV on race morning.
The 5K and 10K courses are the same courses used in the summer Blue Crab Bolt race at Schaeffer. However, the landscape changes significantly from summer to late fall and both courses offer runners a new experience at Schaeffer. The half marathon is one of our favorite courses that we offer as it’s a perfect mix of beautiful singletrack and really unique open farm field running.

Start Times: 9:00am (HM+), 10:30 (10K+), 10:45 (5K+)
Location: Button Farm in Germantown, MD
Course Length/Elevation Gain: 13.5 miles (HM+, 1,000ft), 6.7 miles (10K++, 500ft), 3.2 miles (5K+, 230ft)
Bathrooms: Portajons at start/finish, mile 1.8 and 5.3 of the half marathon, and mile 1.8 of the 10K and 5K

12:00 – Awards (top 5 in each category) and sponsor give-a-ways
** Kids race is for ages 2-11. We split into age groups and run short out and back ‘race’. Kids who participate can pick from the Treasure Box.

Please follow the signs to the huge fields behind the farmhouse. This is a working farm with roaming animals, especially around the farmhouse. So, please drive SLOWLY at all times on the farm.
** Button Farm is private and NOT open to the public except for certain times and certain events. Please do not park here outside of race day. **
Race Rules
- Portable music players or any device requiring IN-EAR head phones are not permitted.
- Outside assistance is only permitted within 50 meters of an aid station.
- Race numbers must be worn on the front and must be visible at all times.
- There are no cut-off times.
- Pets and pacers are not allowed on the course.
- Baby strollers are not permitted on the course.
- Respect other racers, volunteers, race staff, and the environment. No littering.
- Poor sportsmanship may result in disqualification.
- Racers must notify race officials if they drop out of the race.
- Stay on designated trails.
