Hemlock Overlook Course Description

Hemlock Overlook, located along the banks of the historic Bull Run, feels surprisingly remote for being so close to Washington D.C. Sightings of deer, beaver, turkey, osprey and great blue heron are not uncommon in this 425 acre park. This beautiful race course consists mostly of hiking trails (including the Bull Run Occoquan Trail), old dirt roads, and open fields. Competitors will run over rocks and roots and along bull run. The course is designed to be spectator friendly with several areas designated for family and friends to cheer on their racers.

Race Day Schedule

7:30 – Check-in opens
8:50 – Pre-race brief

11:00 – Awards (top 5 in each category) and sponsor give-a-ways

* Kids race is for ages 2-11. We split into age groups and run short out and back ‘race’. Kids who participate can pick from the Treasure Box.

Little Fern Learning race day kids program

Little Fern Learning Kids Program

Little Fern Learning offers fun and engaging race day programs for your children while you are racing. Sanna Adams will spend the morning exploring the nature that area parks have to offer, engage in fun STEM activities, cheer on the grown-ups and participate in a fun kids race.

Drop-off your child between 8:30-8:45 and pick up after the kids race (approximately 11 am) and pre-registration is required.

The cost is $55 per race day program ($45 for second child/sibling). If you are signing up for all four race days, the cost is $200 per first child and $180 for siblings for all four programs.

From Interstate 66:

Take I-66 to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway – formerly Rt 7100). * Exit at 55A SOUTH toward Springfield.
Travel south on Rt. 286 for approx. 6 miles.
Exit at Route 123 SOUTH (Ox Road).
Travel 1.6 miles to the Clifton Road traffic light.
Turn RIGHT onto Clifton Road (Route 645).
Travel approx. 4 miles on Clifton Rd. Continue straight on Clifton Rd. after traveling through the 4-way stop at a gas station.
Pass Yates Ford Road on the RIGHT then pass Henderson Road on the LEFT.
Turn LEFT at Yates Ford Road (Route 615). Continue straight on Yates Ford Road after traveling through the 4-way stop.
Drive 25MPH for 1.5 miles to the entrance of Hemlock Overlook. Yates Ford Road dead ends at Hemlock.
Follow the signs to parking and check-in.

From Interstate 95:

Take I-95 to the exit for Route 123 (Ox Road) NORTH toward Fairfax.
Travel NORTH on Route 123 (Ox Road) for approximately 8.5 miles.
Turn LEFT onto Clifton Road (Route 645) immediately past the entrance to Burke Lake Park.
Travel approx. 4 miles on Clifton Rd. Continue straight on Clifton Rd. after traveling through the 4-way stop at a gas station.
Pass Yates Ford Road on the RIGHT then pass Henderson Road on the LEFT.
Turn LEFT at Yates Ford Road (Route 615). Continue straight on Yates Ford Road after traveling through the 4-way stop.
